summer training goals

  1. Skiers are made in the summer! Nordic skiing demands a high level of fitness that must be built over the course of months and years - the first goal of a summer training group is to prepare you for the winter.

  2. Build a lifelong community in nordic skiing.

  3. Develop a strong and adaptable understanding of fitness that will transfer to life outside of nordic racing.

Junior training program

Four (or more) sessions per week, for athletes focused on improving their nordic race performance year-round. Our training program is geared towards athletes competing in the Besh Cup races in the winter. Competing in the Besh Cups is not required for skiers wishing to do summer ANR, but our training plan is structured with competitive racing in mind - whether race performance is the primary goal in itself, or if the priority is to build fitness for other pursuits, nordic skiing provides a versatile training model with benefits far beyond the scope of competition.

Skiers in the high school program will be expected to complete some of their weekly training outside of group sessions, and will be given a personal log to track their training.

Devo training program

Our development or “devo” group is geared towards middle school age athletes getting into nordic skiing. Many of the skills integral to nordic skiing are best developed at an early age, so the group workouts will take a play-focused approach to building range of motion, body awareness and coordination, as well as general fitness that transfers over to XC running, biking, soccer, and life as an Alaskan kid!

Skiers hoping to join the program should have 1-2 seasons on snow to be comfortable on skis.

Parents & Masters

Whether you have a skier in one of our youth programs or are a lifelong skier yourself, the nordic community doesn’t end at junior racing! You don’t have to be a racer, or even have interest in racing, to benefit from nordic training. The fitness and capability that comes from training as a nordic athlete makes the rugged wonderland of Alaska accessible, and makes for some bada** family vacations.

If you are in the Eagle River area, Andy Hall coaches a local Masters racing program - scroll for signup & contact info.

If you are located in the Valley and would be interested in a Master’s program… click the button below to weigh in on schedule and program focus!

Alaska Nordic Adult ski program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced nordic ski lessons for adults aged 18 and older.

We are proud to partner with the Eagle River Nordic Ski Club, a volunteer organization, to promote Nordic skiing for adults in the Chugiak-Eagle River Community.

We teach both classic and skate techniques.

Participants must provide their own skis.
