Junior athletes need to be prepared to run 8-10 miles on trails at the start of summer training. This is due to limited staff and supervision above all else - we do a lot of trail running, and must try to keep our group within a physical range that we can reasonably respond to in case of emergencies.

If you are new to endurance sports but would like to do summer training, please use the “pre-training training” plan by clicking the second button. This is more gradual than may appear to be necessary - though fitness can be built very quickly by high school athletes, adjusting to the impact of running can take longer than you realize. Doing too much too soon can cause shin splints and impact injuries that limit you for the rest of the season, so it’s in your best interests to build slowly!

For insurance purposes, all athletes must have a current USSA Cross Country license for the 2023-2024 season. Please acquire a license before attending ANR practice.

General licenses will meet insurance requirements, competition license is not required. However, athletes competing for a place on the Junior National or Arctic Winter Games team this coming season will need comp licenses to be eligible for team placement this winter.
